The Dark Star
Naruto - ItachixOC

Grass brushed her back. Her hair sprawled around her heart shaped face. Her breaths were short and haggard. Blood pooled around her legs, her stomach ached. Her crimson red eyes watched the dark sky above her, a bloody smile played on her lips. A gentle breeze rolled through the abandoned meadow, carrying a soft murmur with it. Her skin was cold, frozen and tingled. Her nose burned as the foul stench of blood filled her nostrils. Her body was numb. She could not feel the pain.

The moon raised above her. The light danced against her pale skin. The blood continued to ooze from her fatal wound. Another smile formed on her lips.

This was the end. This is where she will say goodbye. Crimson red eyes slowly closed as her breath slowed. She was injured, but she didn't feel it. She was at peace. She was happy. Another gush of wind swept past leaving a fresh spring flower scent hanging in the air. Her breath stilled. Silence followed.

It was a fitting end for a Shinobi.

Shock. It overwhelmed him as he stepped from behind the trees. His onyx eyes narrowed the minute he saw her figure. Blood pooled around her. Her crimson red eyes were closed and a smile was playing on her lips. The sweet scent of spring hovered in the air. He knelt down beside her and gently brushed away a strand of her hair. Her skin was icy cold. He caressed her cheek.

If only he came sooner.

He scolded himself. Even if he did come sooner, even if he saved her, what would he have done with her? She hated him, detested him. He killed her sister. He took away the person she loved the most. Why would she be grateful to him for saving her life? If he saved her, he would have to take her with him and his leader would never allow that. He would have had to find her a village, a place she probably never would have stayed anyway.

It's better this way.

Despite knowing that she was now at peace with her sister in heaven, he couldn't help the guilt wash over him. It was unusual for him to show his emotions, but they were bubbling in his throat. He removed his hand from her frozen cheek and ran his fingers through his dark hair. He stood up and glanced at the woman he loved one more time. She was smiling.

He was a terrible husband.

Uchiha Itachi found himself smiling between the tears that flowed down his cheeks. Their marriage was short-lived. It wasn't genuine. It was all arranged by the fools that lead the Konoha Council. They were merely teenagers, far too young for a devotion such as marriage. Despite this, they knew each other better than any one. They grew up together. They were family. He loved her. He just never knew it until now.

Uchiha Itachi turned away from the corpse of the woman he loved. His eyes landed on a tall, blue figure. His teammate was watching him with interest. He moved forward and walked past Kisame.

"Itachi-san, was she someone important to you?" Kisame asked.

Itachi stopped. Silence enveloped the moonlit night.
"Very important," came the reply. Kisame smirked in amusement, but Itachi ignored him. He continued moving. Kisame glanced at the corpse once more.

"Are we just leaving her?" Kisame asked. Itachi tightened his fist. He didn't want to leave her like that. He wanted to bury her himself, give her a proper resting place, but he couldn't. Not with the Konoha ninja so close. It was better that they took care of her corpse. They will find her. He made sure that they will.

It's the best he could do for his wife. Kisame seemed satisfied with Itachi's silence. The two Akatsuki members disappeared into the night, a floating figure with crimson red eyes watching them with a smile dancing on her face.
Since I have writer's block, I end up writing random short one-shots from the top of my head. Since my mood isn't top notch either, I end up with this angsty depressing stuff. I'm sorry!

You might see more of this OC in the future!

Should I continue this?

They were married when they were teenagers? Yes. It was a politically arranged marriage. People marrying under the age of 18 was once possible. In some countries it still is. And since Naruto is based slightly in a fictional medieval setting, I thought that these kind of cases aren't impossible.
